Who wouldn’t want to work at SpaceX, one of the giant companies in the space industry! However, this may not be as legendary as it seems. According to job security reports, Musk prioritizes Mars work over his staff. SpaceX employees face more workplace accidents than other companies. Here are the details…
SpaceX employees complain about work accidents and missing safety measures!
SpaceX is a working environment that many people dream of. However, the sound of the drum may sound pleasant from afar. Unfortunately, according to statistics, SpaceX has unsafe working conditions. According to research, it was revealed that there were more than 600 injuries in the company from 2014 to the present. The company did not share these injuries with the public.
Current and former employees mentioned in the report blame the company’s CEO, Elon Musk, for their injuries. He also explained that Musk’s aggressive deadlines and hatred of bureaucracy were effective in these work accidents. Employees think the company’s CEO is cutting corners because of his goal of getting to Mars “as fast as possible.” They also claim that they ignored protocols to speed up the work.
Injury rates at some SpaceX facilities are well above the industry average. There is an injury rate of 0.8 per 100 workers. The 2022 injury rate at the Brownsville, Texas location was 4.8 percent. At the Hawthorne, California, manufacturing facility, the rate was 1.8 percent. In McGregor, Texas, where the company conducted its rocket tests, the injury rate reached 2.7 percent.
Employees faced broken bones, muscle tears, finger fractures, burns, electric shock and serious head injuries due to violations of occupational safety rules. One of these happened in 2021. Hazardous working conditions blinded Brownsville worker Florentino Rios. The same danger left Francisco Cabada, who has been working since January 2022, in a coma.
Lonnie LeBlanc, a worker at SpaceX’s McGregor facility, died in 2014 when winds knocked him off the trailer of an improperly loaded truck. But over the years, SpaceX has paid only meager fines as a result of its safety flaws. He finds it more important to complete his projects rather than improving his working conditions.
